MobilScanner

MobilScanner is a separately priced, stand alone program, intended for use on a laptop, or equivalent PC.  MobilScanner allows you to reassign stocking location, Delete Books, Trash Books, and Flag then as though sold.

 

 

The ideal PC could be rolled around the store on a cart so that the person stocking books has immediate access to the bar-code scanner.

 

 

 

 

Your older hardware can be recycled using MobilScanner.  High power and performance is unnecessary, as well as the requirements that the PC runs Windows XP Professional are eliminated as this program do not directly access the BookAccents Database Files.

 

The idea is to allow a single user BookAccents customer the ability to use a second PC for scanning books to locations.  A file is created on a flash dish, diskette, or other media eventually read by a BookAccents workstation.

 

The general program flow is:

 

 

 

  1. Launch MobilScanner

  2. Choose an output file name

  3. Scan a Location Label, or select by depressing the appropriate button:

  4. Scan Books

 

 

Upon launching, you will immediately see a Windows Dialog Box asking that you choose a file.  This file may be on a removable media such as a floppy of flash disk,    or anywhere on a network that both "this" PC and the BookAccents running PC can access.     In this case, I typed "TonysFile", which will create a file .. E:\TonysFile.txt.

 

 

In the case of a wireless network, you could specify a location of a dedicated file server.  In a Peer-to-Peer Network, any file accessible by both this (scanning PC) and a BookAccents running PC.

Below is MobilScanner in its initial state.  Note that "UNASSIGNED" appears under "Current Location".  This indicates that you MUST first Scan a location, or select form one of the Special Loc buttons.

Please Note:  You may not batch scan ISBNs to add books to your inventory with MobilScanner.

 

The window, below shows the MobilScanner Screen after several items have been scanned.  Remember, the sequence is:

  1. Scan or Select a Location

  2. Scan a Book

  3. Scan More Books if they go to the same location

  4. Scan More Books if they go to the same location

  5. New Location?  If so, go to item 1.

  6. Depress End of Session when done.

  7. Take file to BookAccents PC and load.
