Please note that there is a separate monthly charge for the hand held scanner software.
One of the most useful, unique, and outstanding features of BookAccents is our development of software supporting a hand held, portable bar-code scanner. Both the SPT1550 and SPT1500 currently are supported.
This feature allows you to quickly and easily scan books using a portable Palm Pilot with a built-in bar-code scanner, and assign them to inventory locations.

*Only one cradle is required per system. We have four available in our store, sharing a single cradle. The information is loaded from the scanners into the BookAccents Database as required by returning to the cradle attached to one of the BookAccents work-stations.
A minor disadvantage to this product is that it requires 2 AAA batteries. Unless you can wait for a single set of batteries to recharge, I recommend that a separate NIMH Recharger be purchased, with at least one ADDITIONAL set of 2 AAA batteries. You only have a short time to remove the discharged batteries and replace them with fresh batteries. The unit must not sit with the battery compartment empty for more than a minute or so because the programs will be lost, and will necessitate reloading.
The idea behind the development of this product is:
You just have your shelf stocker take a hand scanner with him. As books are added to your shelves, just scan the Shelf Location Label, then scan all of the books that are going on that shelf.
BookAccents provides the ultimate solution to stocking and moving books.
When stocking books, all you need to do is first scan a shelf label where the book(s) are to be located.
BookAccents provides the ability to efficiently print these labels. |
Now, just scan the Inventory Label on the book. All of the books subsequently scanned will be set to the last location scanned. |
Our book store sells a huge number of books on the Internet. We keep several hundred thousand books in bulk storage. We try to keep just one copy of each book on the store shelves.
The hand-held scanner is an indispensable tool in maintaining our huge inventory, especially when we move books to compact space. |
This is the cradle which allows you to connect your hand-held scanner to a pc. |
Shown at left if the hand-held scanner in its cradle.
The top arrow shows the main menu icon representing the BookAccents Inventory Scanning software. You depress this icon in order to launch the scanning software.
The bottom arrow points to the button to depress to launch the BookAccents software on your PC to update inventory with the information stored in the scanner. |
Once the button is depressed, the window at the left will be displayed while your inventory is being updated.
Please note: BookAccents must be running in an active window when you attempt to launch the update software. |
New! A very quick and effective new method of performing a "re-inventory" of a location has been created.
Upon return to the front desk, the scanner is inserted into its cradle. BookAccents reads the information contained in the scanner's memory and updates your Book Inventory Database locations instantly.
This updating can be done at anytime so long as the BookAccents program is running in an active window on the computer.
During the loading/updating process, books with acceptable labels are removed from the scanner's memory. Upon completing, the scanner maintains a list of Inventory Label Numbers that have no corresponding records in your database.
New! Using the latest update to BookAccents, your scanners' software will be automatically reloaded should it be lost due to power failure.
How to use the scanner: Please note that the following screens are displayed only on the Hand Held Scanner's Display
Initial Screen Display |
Upon launching our software on the Hand Held Scanner, you will see screen similar to this. It is ready to use, awaiting for you to scan a Location Code or a Special Command into "Loc". |
As you begin using this feature, you may see a list if Inventory Label Numbers in the left hand column. This indicates that the software has not been able to reconcile these numbers on a previous run. This is not a problem, it only means that the the number you are looking for has been deleted from your inventory. |

Simple Example of a Scanned Book |
Please focus on "Loc". It currently contains "F23-1". This is its current location code. Any Shelf/Location Labels that are scanned Prior to scanning another Shelf/Location label will be assigned to this location. |
Please focus on "ISBN". This is a multi-purpose screen. Please understand that this means "Inventory Label Number", NOT ISBN This is the last book that we scanned. |
Now, please focus on the reverse video line. It means that in 06/11/04 book 133997 was "scanned to" location "F23-1". The "N" simply means that this book is not listed on Ebay or Half. Unless you have purchased our Internet spiders, you should ignore this "N". |

Simple Example of a Scanned Book (cont.) |
We have not scanned a new Location Code for this example. The scanner program will continue to assign books to F23-1 until another location label is scanned. |
The scanner program knows the difference between Location Codes and Book Inventory Numbers. Just scan either. If you are scanning a book, it will be automatically assigned to the Last Location Code scanned. |
Depressing "Delete" with your finger tip, or stylus will delete the highlighted books from the scanner's memory. This has no effect on you BookAccents Database. |
The location "TRSHED" is a special command to the BookAccents inventory. Use this if you are trashing books, and want them flagged as "Trashed", but not deleted from inventory. |
The information labeled as "Half, Ebay and Tog Ebay" are special purpose, and only meaningful if you are using our Internet Spiders. |
A manual entry is possible in the Loc Field, but Only the location. It is not possible to manually enter the Book Inventory Number, it Must Be Entered by Scanning. |
