In the general, the mission for your installation is this.
Every machine which is to execute BookAccents must have Setup run on it.
This loads the executables, and a copy of the Transaction Database on the local computer.
ONLY the machine acting as the database server (in the case of single users the lone computer is also considered the database server) should have the files contained in the "Master Files Folder" copied to a directory on that Computer.
All computers in the BookAccents Network should have read and write access to that directory and individual files.
You must associate the paths to the three database files on EVERY computer in the network by running the Setup Program SEE Configuration Business Setup
It is vital to understand that the various setup parameter elements are maintained locally in each computers Windows Registry. Therefore, any Global Parameter changes to the operational environment need to be identically reflected in the setup of each individual computer
You should be performing this procedure ONLY if you are installing BookAccents in Single User Mode. That is ONLY ONE computer will have access to the BookAccents functions and databases.
Installing BookAccents on Multi-user Systems. BookAccents LAN
If you are performing a multi-user installation,
you should run Setup on each computer in the network.
This will install the executables as well as BOOKSTORETR.MDB, the transaction database required to be resident on each PC in your BookAccents Network.
Then copy the two files contained in the "Shared Database Files" Folder to a folder on the server. It is critical that all of your PCs reference a single set of the files contained in this distribution folder.
BookAccents was professionally developed to reliably perform in a Windows XP Professional Networked Environment.
The primary difference in the installation for a Multi-user Environment is that several computers will share:
Common information. i.e. Your Inventory, and ISBN Database.
You should seek qualified local assistance in setting up your file system.
For heavy processing loads, a dedicated file server may be required.
Some Hardware.
Label Printer
Invoice Laser Printer
Internet Connection
Running the Setup Program
In a multi-user environment, it is necessary to run the "Setup.exe" Program on each PC, then copy the files (not the folder) contained in the "Shared Database Files" Folder to a common shared network directory. If a dedicated file server is to be used, it is unnecessary to run the Setup Program on the dedicated server.
Important Notes:
The installation
program searches the PC for the database called
C:\Program Files\Bookaccents\BOOKSTORETR.MDB
If it currently exists, a new copy will not replace the old.
If a copy is not present, a new one will be installed.
This is your transaction database for this computer.
Upon successful completion of the setup, you will need to configure your computers. In a multi-user environment each (and every) computer must be individually configured. This will make certain file associations, and you will be able to select parameters to customize your installation.
Installing BookAccents#Database_Layout
It is critical that you perform this final step. See Cash Register Disk Image Receipts
