Database Recovery

From time to time, it is necessary to rebuild your database in order to maintain efficient performance.  In this case, the rebuild utility program compacts the database, as well as reorganizes the Database Indexes and Pointers.

Unfortunately, in the computer business there are times when a computer, power, or software error corrupts your database.  When this happens, you have one of two choices.

  1. Rebuild, and hope that the rebuild action is successful.

  2. Reload your database form your latest backup, and re-enter any data that is missing since you last performed a backup.

It is quite obvious that the first option is by far the most attractive.

We have provided a copy of a rebuild utility that should successfully rebuild your database both routinely, and when disaster strikes.

The example below gives step-by-step instructions for rebuilding your main database.  It is critical that you carefully follow the steps outlined below.  If you are not comfortable in performing this action ASK SOMEONE WHO IS COMPETENT FOR HELP.  If there is any doubt, perform your daily backup now, remembering not to destroy your previous backup.

NO Computers may be accessing your database as you rebuild it.

The rebuild utility creates a new database of the rebuilt data.  You must specify the Source Database Path, as well as a Backup Name for the resultant file.

You may copy and paste the following paths.

It is a good idea to keep a copy of the bad file.

In this example we renamed Bookstore to

BookStore Bad File.

The final step is to rename
