Trading Screen

The features on the trading screen provide an additional feature.  Using the trading screen, you can readily see sales statistics when you scan the ISBN of books.  Wonder how a book is selling?  Just scan the ISBN on the trading screen.  You can see sales and inventory levels for new and used books, also statistics about other books written by the author.

More about Trading Rules

To make your life a bit easier, you can have BookAccents suggest when you should not take a book for trade.  Or more precisely, to notify you if you take this book, you will exceed the recommended 3 copies (not configurable at this time) in inventory.  When this threshold is exceeded the following will occur if the "Apply Trading Rules" box is checked.

A new feature has been incorporated into Book/Accents Release 5.5.19 and above. Trading Screen 4

You got here by depressing the Book Trading Screen Button on the Main Screen.

This is the initial state of the Book Trading Screen when you enter from the main screen.  The main purpose of this screen is to provide a rapid means of batching books that customers bring into your store to trade.   Items are not entered into your Book Inventory Database until labels are printed for them.   This screen provides the mechanism to print all of the books listed in a "batch" after credits are calculated, and a credit slip is printed.

Although you can enter a customer's name and telephone number, this information is not maintained by BookAccents.  It is only used to identify the credits slips on very busy days, or when books are left to be later credited.

When using the trading, think about the books you are scanning as a "batch".  This is a very efficient way of entering your books into inventory.  You might consider doing this rather than using the Print label screen.  Although we have at times used this method for entering books when first establishing our database, we recommend that this is accomplished via Trade Bar-code Label Screen  or  New Bar-code Label Screen.

If you are not already familiar with them, see Hot Zones Explained.

After adding four books (and a Credit Slip that someone brought in with these books) into the trading screen, it now appears as shown below.  The first entry (in yellow) represents the addition of a previously issued credit slip that the customer wished to combine with the books brought in today.  The second entry (in cyan) represents a manual entry for a book that we took in trade, but will discard, without printing a label.  The third, forth and fifth entries were accomplished by scanning in the books' ISBNs.

Please Note:  ONLY books preceded by an asterisk (*) in the batch will have a labels printed.

The Asterisks can be turned on and off in two manners:

  1. If the Trading Rules CheckBox is checked, then the trading rules apply.

  2. You can Manually Toggle the Asterisks by highlighting and Double Clicking

Focus on the fifth line ("Hot and Bothered").  It is displayed in reverse blue, indicating that this is the currently "active" entry.  If I wished, I could remove it from the Traded Batch by depressing the Remove Book From List Button.

Please focus on the frame in the upper right hand corner.  This shows information about our Active Book, "Hot and Bothered".  The date this book was published was 7/1/2001, and it has a  Rank of 5,110.  We have previously sold 2 used copies, and currently have none in stock.  We have sold 35 books by this author, and currently have 10 in stock (by that author).  Please note, that if you highlight a different book, your book information will not change at this time.  You may, however highlight and delete any book in the list.  You can also see that there are 5 items in the list, with a total credit of $40.86.

Please focus on the box labeled "Manual Entry".   Note that there are four entry fields associated with four "Add" buttons.  The first three entry fields are "remembered", in that the prices will be saved until you change them, the forth box erase the entered value when the Add button is depressed.  These field provide a fast and easy of entering trading values of miscellaneous books.
