Trading Screen 3
So far we have seen an example where you already have entries of the books that are being traded both in the ISBN Database and the Book Inventory Database. But what if either or neither case is true? It is a little more complicated, but don't worry, these situations are easily handled too.
Let's take an example where the book is currently present in your ISBN Database, but this is the first one (with that ISBN) that you have ever entered into your Book Inventory Database. How can this happen? Your ISBN Database is a composite of all of the books that you have, plus all of the entries that we maintain on the ISBN Database Server in Rock Hill. Therefore, the ISBN Database holds entries for books on every store using BookAccents..
The initial scanning process proceeds just as in our previous example. After you depress the "Print Batch Labels" button and the printing process commences, and before the label for book "Saucer" is printed, BookAccents needs to know the Genre or Category of this book. This information is NOT carried in the ISBN Database because we feel that each store should make the decision of where (for this example) this Stephen Coontz books should live. You need to only make that decision once for each ISBN Entry because BookAccents will "remember". Additionally, if you already have other books by this author, BookAccents will indicate the Genres of those books and you may select one by just clicking.
With the example shown below "Saucer" has not been entered into your Book Inventory Database previously. You must select the Genre of this book. Since we already have about 80 books by Coontz, it is a good bet that it is in one of the previously selected Genres. It you are happy with one of the books suggested in the Pick Category window shown in the example below, just Double click on it. Note: As you can see by this example, it is not necessary to place all books from a given author in the same Genre.

Lets suppose you are not happy with the list suggested, you can insert the Genre of your choice by selecting form a list in the "Choose Category" PullDown.

Let's discuss another example where the book is not present in Your ISBN Database. After the ISBN is scanned, and Book Accents determines the ISBN is not present, it contacts our server in Rock Hill, requesting information about the ISBN. When our server finds the information (almost always with reasonably modern titles), that information will be returned to your computer via the Internet and Saved in your ISBN Database. This sometimes happens so quickly that you don't even notice, but it can take a few seconds. In any case it is far easier and faster that typing the information yourself! During the label printing phase, you will have to specify the Genre of the book.
Our final example deals with an instance that your local ISBN Database does not have an entry for your ISBN and our Rock Hill Server cannot locate the information about a certain ISBN. Sorry, in this case you will need to type in that information. Once all of the data is entered, depress "ADD".

Congratulations, that's it for this lesson. Trading books is by far the most complicated task.
