Since the amount of shelf storage is generally far less that one would like, we have developed a concept, we call "Bulk Storage".

Locations starting with "BX-" i.e. BX-005 indicate to BookAccents that it is s "Bulk Storage Location".  Books can be stored in these locations due to overstocking in your store.   Your reasons may vary, but this is how we put this feature to work in our store:

1. We purchase Remainder Books in very large quantities, sometimes hundreds of a particular book when it fits within our buying parameters.

2. We sometimes over-purchase new books to get the quantify discounts.

3. When absolutely pristine books are traded and we have more than three copies already on our shelves.

Although we have a large store, we cannot shelve all of these books.  It is important, however that tight control is maintained.  

We always want at least one book of each title occupying  bookstore shelf space.  To that end, we developed this concept:

1. We store our overstocks in locations (boxes) named BX-nnn. (nnn is a unique number)

2. We developed a report that identifies ISBNs where.....

• Zero copies are currently on the shelves (in the store)

• At least on copy sold in the store

• One or more copier are in BX-nnn location.

Obviously the next step is to pull the books stored in bulks and scan them when stocked on the shelves.
