From what I have learned, there are several schools of thought relating to trading books. You should choose the one that is right for you, and the type of store you want to own. Below, I am playing the Devil's Advocate. We really do not care how you trade, BookAccents will handle it!

The customers are giving me the books free. There is an almost unlimited source of these free books because people want to get rid of them anyway. Most people realize that their books have a very small value because they see them at yard sales for 10 cents to a buck each. Take everything that is brought into the store. Give customers credit for them. Throw away what you don't want, stock the remaining. Hint: You will find some sleepers. We have had many books traded that looked like real rags that sold for over $100 on the Internet. It just takes time and a little bit of experience.
|
Unless you adopt a 50/50 trading policy, you are going to take a real beating. People will bring in junk and take out your best books.
if you have been on a 100% trading policy, you might think that can't switch to a 50/50 because your customers will be unhappy if they have to spend any money when swapping books.
Hint: People who habitually spend little or no money in your store might have a name, but I don't think they should be called "customers".

I only want the best and cleanest books in my store, so I am very selective in the books I take. I allow a 100% trading policy, and feel that I am making a 100% profit on my books because I wind up with 1 additional, perfect book each time I trade.

You upset potential customers in a different way. They are insulted that you do not want their books. "Then why are your used books worth $4.00 while theirs are worth nothing?"
Check with your banker, and see if he will take books as any type of payment. |

I want to allow customers to receive CASH for books turned in.
|
In my opinion, you do not need to do this in order for customers to bring you an unlimited supply of books, but BookAccents will also allow you to do business in this way. |

Even though you realize that you are getting the books for free, you want to be somewhat selective
|
We won't argue that it would be good to train your customers that you really don't want any moldy, smelly junk. Some customers try to take advantage of you, and you need to use some common sense. Even though we take almost everything offered, we do have our limits. |
